Prior authorization is required before shipping your radio in for service.
(Authorization is valid for no more than 21 days.)

When shipping your radio, please be sure it is well-packed. The carrier may not honor an insurance claim if it is not properly packed. And I will not be held responsible for any damage due to inadequate packing.

If you have the original box with Styrofoam or corrugated inserts, please use them (but only if they’re in decent condition). Also be sure to enclose the rig in a plastic bag before sliding it into Styrofoam inserts. This prevents tiny bits of Styrofoam from getting stuck all over the radio.

Please do not use inserts that were designed to fit another model of radio. The only exceptions would be IC-746 and IC-746PRO inserts are interchangeable. And the IC-756/PRO/II/III series inserts are interchangeable.

If your radio only came with one box, add an outer box (double-boxed) with plenty of padding in between the boxes.

If you don’t have the original box, tightly wrap the radio in several layers of 1/2 to 1-inch thick bubble wrap, using extra layers over the front panel. Then double-box it, with plenty of padding in between the boxes.

Please do not wrap the radio in air pillows, which could easily pop during transit. Though it is OK to use air pillows for fill, in between the inner and outer boxes.

Shipping_DamageIt is imperative that the front-panel is well-protected with many layers of bubble-wrap. In addition, the radio must not be allowed to shift around in the box. The dual-concentric controls are most vulnerable to damage, and some are no longer available from the manufacturer.

There is no need to include any accessories (such as microphone, power cable, manual, etc.).

Please include a packing slip with the following information:

  • Call-sign, name, street address, and contact info.
  • Model of radio and its serial number.
  • Insurance value of radio (for return shipment).
  • Description of repair(s) needed.

Acceptable shipping methods are:

  • UPS Ground (preferred)
  • FedEx Ground / Home Delivery
  • Priority Mail

Warning: “The UPS Store” may have significantly higher pricing than actual UPS customer centers. So unless you want them to pack it for you, it is usually best to go directly to a UPS depot.

I will ship your radio back via UPS Ground. I have an account with them, and they pickup at my location.
