Step 1

Your Responsibility

First, be reasonably sure your rig actually needs repair. Make sure the problem doesn’t lie elsewhere, such as antenna, feed-line, power supply, cables, microphone, etc.

To rule out antenna, feed-line or RF-feedback issues, test the rig on a dummy load. Every ham should have a dummy load!

Step 2

Worth Repairing?

Be reasonably sure your rig is worth repairing. I'm generally not interested in restoration projects, or inheriting someones botched repair attempt. And I'm certainly not interested in rigs that have been subjected to a corrosive marine/salt-air environment.

Step 3

Repair List

Check my Repair List to see if I service your particular rig or not.

Step 4

Policies

Review my Policies and Shipping pages to be sure you are in agreement, especially regarding online payment. (I do not accept checks, money orders, or cash. And I cannot accept credit/debit card payments by phone.)

Step 5

Contact

Email your request to mike@n1eq.com. Enter the rig's model number and your callsign in the subject line, and describe the service required.

I strive to answer all reasonable requests, often within one business day.

Note: I normally spend weekends away from the shop and computer.

Step 6

Authorization

If I accept your equipment for repair, I will authorize a specific time frame for delivery. This is usually within a week, but not always, depending on my current and scheduled workload.

Step 7

Shipping

After you’ve received authorization to ship, please be sure your equipment is properly packaged (see Shipping instructions), and ship so it'll be delivered to me during the time frame provided.

If you cannot follow through, please have the courtesy of letting me know.

Step 8

Notification

I will notify you by email when your equipment has been delivered to me. And I usually unpack rigs the same day I receive them.

Step 9

Repair Process

I will keep you posted during the repair process.

Most repairs are complete within a few business days, or a week at most. But occasionally, I do need to order parts, which could cause a delay. And if your rig has an intermittent problem, it could take a while to isolate.

Step 10

Invoicing

When repairs are complete, I will send an invoice and payment request via email.

Step 11

Payment

You can pay me securely online via PayPal (preferred) or Google Checkout, using any major credit or debit card.

Note: I do not accept checks, money orders, or cash.

And I cannot accept credit/debit card payments directly.

Step 12

Return Shipment

(via UPS Ground)

After I receive payment, I will schedule a UPS Ground pickup, which is usually the next business day. And I will provide you with the tracking number.

Your equipment will be re-packed in its original (OEM) box(es), if supplied.

A printed invoice and any replaced components will be enclosed in the package.
